7 Tips for Living Less Stressed

Mommy’s self care is the most important thing to me in my household. Without it, I get stressed and anxious. I even grow horns out of my head and smoke comes out of my nose! …Well, maybe not that part. It is important though to take care of yourself. Once we have a family we tend to forget about “me” and focus on “them”. But sometimes “me” is perfectly fine. It helps not only us but them.

1.Breathe

Seems simple, right? But sometimes we forget to take a second out of our day to just take one deep breath. Do it now… feels good doesn’t it?

2. Drink Water

I know wine sounds like a better option (it does to me too!) but keeping hydrated can be one of the best things for you. It reduces headaches, helps food digest, and clears up your skin! I keep a water bottle with me at all times, especially while working at my desk. My goal is to try and drink a gallon a day! There are plenty of apps to help you keep track of your water intake. I downloaded the free Daily Water app to help me! You just have to remember to keep track of it!

3. Take a bath

Or you might prefer a long hot shower. Whatever helps you decompress after a long stressful day. For me, I put Smudgy to bed, light some candles, put on some music, and sit in a nice hot bath. My husband thinks I’m weird for how hot I like my water. But it works for me 🙂 Being alone in a nice bath, without a Smudgy throwing toys in the bathtub at you, its heaven to me. I don’t get to do it very often but when I do… angels sing in joyous melodies in celebration!

4. Be Active.

Take a walk or a hike. Turn off the tv, put down your phone, and get out of the house. Mine and Hubby’s favorite thing to do together is to go to the gym. It releases endorphin’s, “endorphin’s make you happy, and happy people don’t kill other people”-Legally Blonde

5. Watch the amount of caffeine you consume.

Don’t hurt me for this one! But Caffeine causes anxiety which in turn can cause stress, and yes this mean coffee too! Caffeine can also make you jittery and unfocused while keeping you awake a night. And all of us know how much we need a good nights sleep!

6. Ask for Help!

Sometimes life gets overwhelming. Your Smudgy is running circles around you while you’re exhausting yourself trying to be super mom. Ask anyone, family member, spouse, or friends. Anyone that can occupy the crazy Smudgy’s while you take a shower or run some errands. Most mom’s wont ask for help…but you need to start girlfriend!

7. Lastly, have a day/night out with your girls.

Grab your friends and hit the town or go out to coffee in the morning. Personally, I love cuddling up in my PJ’s and having a night in watching movies and drinking wine.

Your body and mind know what it needs to keep you happy. Listen to it. A happy mommy, is a happy family.
